St. John has a variety of ministries which provide spiritual opportunities for its parishioners, however the St. John Fellowship group is based on the belief that the parish that prays together should also play together.

The group seeks to enhance parish life for new and existing parishioners with activities and programs that focus on building the St. John community through friendship and social interaction.

It is committed to building a sense of community within St. John’s parish.

Formally its bylaws state its “purpose is to enrich our lives through fellowship in a benevolent and social atmosphere that will enhance our parish and our love and understanding of each other."

Throughout its over 20 years in existence at St. john, the group is responsible for the establishment of the Annual - first Sunday in August - parish picnic and the adults-only Mardi Gras event.

Early adult activities included the ’Fall Fling’ and ‘Socializing 50’s Style.

Over the years, activities have included evangelization, new parishioner pizza parties and welcome bags, pre-teen and teen excursions including Deep River Water Park,  A Taste of St. John and a parish-wide idea exchange.

The Fellowship group has planned and instituted a variety programs and social events to reach out and bring us all together as parishioners so that we can get to know each other in a relaxed atmosphere.

The group meets several times a year in the resource room and is open to all members of St. John parish. There are no dues or membership requirements other than each participant “shall share in the responsibility for achieving our purpose”.

Historically, the group began in an era when many parishioners were saying; there’s never anything fun to do at St. John, so a group of parishioners decided to do something about the lack of activities. Some of the group remembered much earlier days at St. John when there were parties, dances and all types of get-togethers or “doings” as they sometimes called them. Others were transplanted from extremely socially-active parishes, and still others have been lured by the incredible friendliness of St. John parishioners and said they would like to build on that atmosphere.

The Fellowship group is composed of a diverse group of individuals with a common goal. It’s a catalyst to bring parishioners together in “social” events, so that St. John can be a fun, friend-filled activity center, as well as a place of spiritual growth & worship.
